“Do you believe in true love?” I ask, sighing.
Inoo watches me, raising an eyebrow. “Me? At this point, I don’t know. What, did you fall head-over-heels for someone?” He scoots closer toward me on the couch. It amuses me how his eyes spark in curiosity at the moment.
“No,” I lied, shrugging.
“That’s good; I have to get fucked somewhere,” he replies, offering me the bowl of popcorn in his lap. “Want?”
“Thanks.” I take a handful, shoving it in my mouth all at once. “But couldn’t you go to Yabu again? I mean, if I had a relationship and all that.”
Inoo shook his head. “For a guy, he came a little too close to getting too emotionally attached. I thought it wouldn’t be a problem because it’s been…” He counted on his fingers the years from our first year in high school. “Four years ish? Also, you’re better in bed. I love Yabu, but he needs to put some tush on.” He laughs.
I have to admit that I agree (about his build, not his bed techniques), but Yabu already knows how skinny he is. “Don’t be so mean, Inoo-chan,” I playfully scold, taking another handful of popcorn from the bowl. “You’re not gonna try anyone else though?”
It would seem strange to ask someone about his or her sex life apart from the one they have with you. But with Inoo-chan and me, there is no such thing as awkward.
Inoo shrugs. “You said it yourself before; you’re convenient.”
People say that having a friends-with-benefits relationship basically tells someone that they’re good enough to have as a sex friend, but not worthy to fall in love with.
And I’m here to tell you that’s bullshit. Typically, yes, friends-with-benefits isn’t something you want to get involved in, especially with girls, because they have the inclination to become more attached in comparison to guys. For Inoo and me, though, the relationship is much more abstract than it is blatantly physical.
Before sex comes my best friend that carries me on his shoulders during the toughest times.
I wrap my arm around Inoo’s shoulders, and he grins, moving the bowl off of his lap. He then decides to lie down in my lap instead.
“Wow, I was going to give you a hug…” I roll my eyes, and he stares up at me with a smug grin.
“And I rejected you.”
Friends-with-benefits is a misunderstood concept. Anyone who says that it sucks doesn’t exactly remember that it isn’t about emotional attachment or love. It’s just sex. Inoo and I love each other, but that’s because we’re friends, not because we’re lovers. We have emotional attachment to not hurt each other. But there’s a difference.
It’s not making love.
It’s called fucking.
I start laughing at my own thoughts, and Inoo raises an eyebrow. “The fuck you laughing about, Hikaru?”
I shake my head. “Nothing. Just glad that I met you.”
Puzzled, he looks at me with a suspicious gaze.
But he responds soon,
“I’m glad I met you too.”
Inoo-chan is my best friend. And we have sex, but it’s not like that means we’re together as a couple. Regardless, he deserves to be loved and so do I.
And there’s no one that knows and believes that more than we do for one another.
